Recommended Tools
Below are the tools that we recommend for installing your lighting system with links to big-box hardware stores.
If you live local to northern Utah, we are happy to lend out any of the tools listed below. After placing your order, contact us for more information.
- Bubble Level - use to install equipment such as the control box level or square with your house architecture. Helps with measuring the pitch of your roof or trim when used with a speed square. We use this one from Home Depot.
-
Cable Ripper
- use to rip open the jacket on the ends of cable between the controller
and lights or the cable between light strings. We recommend
this one
that can be shipped free to your local
Home Depot, or
Amazon.

- Cordless Drill – use to drive mounting screws and drill holes for wires. We use this one from Home Depot.
- Lineman Pliers – bend the aluminum tracks and crimp wire connectors using lineman pliers. Be sure your pliers have the ability to crimp wire crimp connectors, otherwise additional tools are necessary. We recommend one like this one available at Home Depot and other hardware stores.
- Sheet Metal Snips – cut the aluminum tracks with sheet metal snips - available at Home Depot and other hardware stores.
- Speed Square - mark out cuts, bends, and folds on your aluminum tracks. Also used to measure the pitch of your roof. You can get a plastic one or a laser etched aluminum one for a bit more.
- Wire Stripper – use to remove the insulation from wires before connecting them. Make sure you have/get one that can strip at least 20 and 16 AWG (American Wire Gauge) wires. We recommend one like this one available at Home Depot.
